In present investigation ten plant extracts were screened for in vitro antidandruff activity. Study compared the inhibitory characteristics of ten plant extracts against Malassezia furfur. The organisms used in this study were isolated from dandruff scales, collected from person afflicted of dandruff. Total seven isolates and standard culture of Malassezia furfur were used to check antidandruff activity. Those extracts, which showed a significant reduction in growth, were further tested to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The potentials of four extracts viz. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn (MIC - 2.24 mg/ml), Phyllanthus emblica (MIC - 18.0 mg/ml), Allium sativum (MIC - 4.48 mg/ml), and Terminalia chebula (MIC - 9.0 mg/ml) were established as active antidandruff plants and plant extracts were compared with routinely used antifungal agents.
